Prof. Rosina Mamokgethi Phakeng is a trailblazing mathematics education scholar and former Vice-Chancellor of the University of Cape Town. As the first Black South African woman to earn a PhD in mathematics education, her research on multilingual mathematics classrooms has earned global recognition, including the Africa Education Medal. A recipient of the Order of the Baobab and Order of Ikhamanga, she has shaped education policy and leadership in South Africa and beyond. At the WLHE Summit 2025, she will share her expertise on academic leadership, diversity in STEM, and empowering women in higher education.
