SHINE (Susan’s Hub for Innovation, Nurturing and Empowerment) is a skills development initiative dedicated to empowering women and girls with the knowledge, practical skills, support, and opportunities they need to build independent and sustainable futures. Beginning in Cape Town, South Africa, SHINE addresses barriers that prevent women, particularly those in underserved communities, from accessing meaningful skills and economic opportunities. Through programmes focused on sewing and garment-making, entrepreneurship, community mentorship, and certified training, SHINE provides a supportive pathway from learning to livelihood, equipping participants with practical skills, business knowledge, and guidance to turn their abilities into income-generating opportunities. Open to women and girls aged 16 and above, including beginners with no prior sewing experience, SHINE is committed to promoting dignity, self-reliance, and sustainable impact by helping women create opportunities for themselves, their families, and their communities. The initiative also carries forward the legacy of Susan Kristoferson, whose compassion, generosity, mentorship, and commitment to women's empowerment continue to inspire its work. Coordinated by BEE Solutions and Consultancy Services and supported by partners including Diamond Valley Sustainable Living Centre and Days for Girls, SHINE is launching in Cape Town with a vision to expand across Africa, including Nigeria, Kenya, Cameroon, and Zimbabwe, with a simple but powerful mission: to empower women through skills and help them shine.
